I am Jan Feld, Associate Professor in economics at Victoria University of Wellington. I am an applied economist by training with earlier work in labour and behavioural economics. Over time, my research has moved increasingly toward meta-science: the study of how the scientific process works and how it can be improved.
A central theme in my work in generalisability. Empirical studies usually answer questions in particular settings, with a particular sample, design, and empirical approach. I am interested in when such results travel, and when they do not. More broadly, my work asks how we can build research practices that make empirical evidence more reliable, cumulative, and useful.
